#VulDieGat: Alberton and Germiston roads now smoother thanks to AfriForum’s pothole project
The AfriForum branches in Alberton and Germiston repaired potholes in Azalea and Nasturtium Road in Alberton and Germiston respectively in collaboration with volunteers. During this action on 27 July, around 730 kg of tar was used to repair 14 potholes. The street name, Azalea Road, was also painted on the road.
This project follows after the Alberton branch recently established a WhatsApp group for the community to report potholes in their area. This initiative quickly gained momentum, with active participation from residents and local security companies.
#VulDieGat is an annual national project during which AfriForum branches across the country repair potholes worth R1 million in July. The northern region, under which the Alberton and Germiston branches fall, repaired R230 850 worth of potholes from January to July this year. A total 2 565 bags of tar, totalling 64,13 tonnes of tar, were used for pothole projects in the northern region in this period.
“Many roads in Alberton and Germiston are in a bad state, so the branches decided to take on this project to make a difference and oppose the decay. This project has shown once again what we can achieve if we work together. By joining hands and combining our resources, we made a tangible difference. We look forward to continuing this important work and invite all residents to participate in future projects,” says Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s District Coordinator on the East Rand.
The Alberton branch is calling on the community to get involved in their community and to join the branch. Visit AfriForum Alberton on Facebook or contact 081 217 8579 or join by visiting www.wordlid.co.za.
