Municipality’s overdue debt must be made public – AfriForum

AfriForum’s Westonaria branch brought an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (Act no. 2 of 2000) (PAIA) to determine the West Rand District Municipality’s overdue debt to Rand Water. This is to determine why water supply in Venterspos has been repeatedly interrupted for more than two months.

This follows after the local branch sent a letter of demand in this regard to the West Rand District Municipality on 11 June 2017.

“Access to water is a constitutional right and AfriForum will make every effort to determine the reason for these water interruptions,” says Esther Swart, who heads up the Local Government Affairs portfolio of AfriForum’s Westonaria branch.
