KonTiki raft race attendees in AfriForum’s safe hands
AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPD) provided crime prevention services during the annual KonTiki raft races at the Homestead Dam in Benoni.
A team of 32 neighbourhood watch patrollers worked tirelessly from Friday 17 May at 14:00 until after 02:00 on Saturday to ensure a safe and peaceful environment. These dedicated individuals put themselves at the service of the community to prevent crime and maintained a visible presence throughout the event.
Thanks to the increased visibility, no criminal activities were reported. There was an incident where car keys were left behind in a vehicle and returned to the owner after the vehicle was locked.
“We are incredibly proud of our patrollers and the SAPS for their cooperation and hard work during this event,” says Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand. “Their dedication to community safety has made a significant difference and we appreciate their selfless service.”
“It is our responsibility to ensure that our community feels safe and protected when they participate in community days and gatherings. It is these events that keep our traditions alive and unite our community,” concludes Ferreira.
