Kempton Park community arrests suspect with criminal record
AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch on Sunday night arrested an alleged suspect in the town in cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the local community reaction unit.
This follows after one of the neighbourhood watch members received a phone call regarding an assault that was taking place in the area and was summoned to the scene. The victim was afterwards rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect was taken to the Norkem Park Police Station where it was learned that he already had a criminal record for assault and drug abuse, as well as that there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently arrested and a criminal charge was laid against him.
“Thanks to good cooperation between various role-players, this serves as yet another example of the continuous safety successes achieved by the Kempton Park neighbourhood watch,” says Jan Vermaak, Chairperson of the neighbourhood watch.
