Endicott neighbourhood watch safeguards road surface
The Endicott neighbourhood watch, which forms part of the AfriForum branch in Springs, on 28 January 2021 rendered assistance by cleaning up the road surface of the R42 between Endicott and Nigel after oil was presumably spilled over it on purpose. After the first truck jack-knifed, the neighbourhood watch members immediately started to partially close off the road. Wood sawdust was thrown on the road surface of approximately 80 m, after which it was swept clean again.
According to Cornel Swart, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Springs branch, the swift action of the AfriForum members definitely prevented further accidents, definite damage and even fatal injuries. It is simply more proof that AfriForum is there for communities.
“It is becoming clearer that communities need to start standing together and do things themselves due to the municipalities’ inability to perform services. We are thankful for the quick response by the neighbourhood watch to ensure the safety of motorists,” says Stephanus (Butch) Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
