Electricity supply in Rustenburg
We, the residents of Rustenburg and supporters of the community, sign this petition to indicate our support for AfriForum’s initiative to address electricity supply issues in the city. We are concerned about the continuing poor service delivery and the impact that this has on our daily lives.
We acknowledge that the Rustenburg Local Municipality is experiencing serious power supply interruptions as a result of poor maintenance, which has a negative influence on our households, businesses and overall living standards. This situation constitutes a violation of our rights as residents and is unacceptable.
We support AfriForum’s guideline letter that was submitted to NERSA and the Rustenburg Local Municipality, and we demand to receive answers before 2 July 2023. We support AfriForum in demanding the following measures:
- Improved communication: We demand that the municipality establishes an effective communication system to inform us of planned interruptions, occurring problems and repair times. This will help us to prepare better and to plan our daily activities.
- Effective fault reporting system: We request the municipality to establish an easy, accessible and effective system to report electricity problems, and that these are resolved quickly and efficiently. We want the confidence that our requests receive attention and that repairs are made as soon as possible.
- Fast and reliable repair time: We realise that problems and interruptions are inevitable, but we demand that the municipality allocate applicable resources to reduce repair times. We cannot allow unnecessary interruptions to limit our productivity, safety and quality of life.
We request NERSA to take immediate action to ensure that the Rustenburg Local Municipality improve our electricity supply and adhere to minimum standards as required by the licence issuer’s contractual obligations. We warn that, should NERSA and the municipality fail to comply with their legal obligations, we will consider legal steps to protect the interests of the community.
It is time for change! We call on all residents of Rustenburg to support our petition.
