East Rand neighbourhood watches respond to 25 incidents during national patrol
The AfriForum neighbourhood watches on the East Rand took part in the organisation’s national mass patrol on 19 April and responded to 25 incidents in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security companies. AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park and Springs were visible during the patrol. The patrol started at 20:00 that evening and lasted until 07:00 the next morning.
One hundred and fifteen AfriForum neighbourhoods watch members in 96 vehicles, as well as private security companies, medical partners and other security organisations participated in this patrol during which more than 8,435 km were covered.
“AfriForum does these national patrols to increase visibility. It also achieves and improves effective cooperation between AfriForum neighbourhood watches, the SAPS, private security companies and other security structures which are extremely important for the community’s safety,” says Jurie Ferreira, District Coordinator for AfriForum on the East Rand.
“I would like to thank every role player and partner involved in making this patrol a success, as well as every patrol member for their willingness to sacrifice their time to secure the areas in the East Rand,” concludes Ferreira.
