Clover-attacks: Proceedings in bail application to resume Thursday

The proceedings in the bail application of Nkosinathi Mbatha and Mohale Shokane, the two persons who are being accused of the murder of Terence Tegg, the ex-Recce who died during the Clover-strike, as well as attempted murder on J.J. Cassanga, one of the guards who sustained serious injuries during the brutal attack, was today postponed to 31 March. The legal representative of the second applicant is still in the process of cross-examining the State’s witness, captain Robert George Seckle.

AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit is currently, in terms of a watching brief, assisting Michelle Bebbington, who was engaged to Tegg, as well as the Cassanga-family.

Captain Seckle today persisted with his version that there is a strong case against the accused persons and that the State has eyewitnesses and video footage, which implicates them. He also testified during cross-examination that eyewitnesses on the day of the alleged attacks led the SAPS to the two accused persons’ hiding place after which they were arrested.

There was also a large group of people at the court who supported the accused persons of which certain people were wearing T-shirts of the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa.
