Civil Rights Index: AfriForum investigates trampling of rights in 2016
AfriForum investigated the state of civil rights in 2016 and found major shortcomings. These findings are outlined in the annual civil rights index that was released today.
The index focuses specifically on 17 first-generation rights. Johan Nortje, researcher at the AfriForum Research Institute (ANI), says various rights were infringed in 2016 – especially language and cultural rights as well as the right to life and dignity.
“One of the main conclusions made in this index is that political ideologies such as transformation and government interference as well as the high crime rate are some of the biggest factors leading to the trampling of first generation rights.”
