Benoni branch invests in technology to safeguard community
The AfriForum branch in Benoni recently decided to find a new way to ensure a safer town, build relationships with the police and other role-players, and ensure residents know AfriForum is here to make a difference. The branch subsequently decided to bring SNIPR to Benoni.
SNIPR is an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology that recognizes number plates and cross-references them across a local and global database of listed suspicious vehicles that includes a subscription to the law enforcement agency concerned with the tracing of wanted vehicles.
AfriForum’s Benoni branch approached different community members and safety organisations to invest in this community project. “The AfriForum branch and all parties involved are proud to say that we have a number of new cameras placed on strategic points all over Benoni,” says Archie Mouyis, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Benoni branch.
Other organisations involved, among which PHP/MAMBA Security, monitor these cameras 24/7 and allocate response officers to this project to act immediately once there is a positive hit. The SAPS, EMPD and other security providers are also involved.
“The project already had a lot of success and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead. This is definitely another positive step forward for the Benoni community,” says Mouyis.
