Belfast branch launches project to tackle water problems
AfriForum’s Belfast branch launched a project to tackle ongoing water problems in the town on 1 August. Belfast is currently undergoing serious water shortages. Therefore, the branch decided to help the community solve the problem through this project.
This follows after the branch received several complaints from despondent residents about dry taps. The first phase is an online link where residents can report water interruptions and problems. These messages will be sent directly to the municipality. This way, management of the Belfast branch can put the Emalahleni Local Municipality under pressure to comply with residents’ right to water.
“In the past year, we have established two emergency water points in the town and plan to have another in place within the next two weeks. We will continue to counter municipal deterioration by launching sustainable projects like this,” says Arlo van Heerden, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Lowveld.
