AfriForum’s safety structures in southern region hold mass patrol
The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape, in cooperation with the SAPS, the local CPF, community members, various security companies and security agencies, carried out a mass patrol on 14 April in their respective areas to create policing visibility. The patrol started around 18:00 and continued until 06:00 the next morning.
A total of 807 AfriForum patrollers and 560 patrollers from other institutions participated in the patrol and covered a total of 18 123 km in 661 vehicles.
During the operation, 26 incidents were reported and several arrests were also made. Some of the incidents include the possession of drugs, illegal weapons and ammunition as well as persons driving under the influence of alcohol.
“The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in the southern region will constantly undertake projects and conduct regular patrols to curb crime and promote safety in cooperation with the SAPS and other security agencies,” says David Olivier, AfriForum’s Safety Specialist for the southern region.
