AFRIFORUM’S OUDTSHOORN NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH TAKES PART IN NATIONAL MASS PATROL

On 30 July 2021 AfriForum’s Oudtshoorn neighbourhood watch took part in this civil rights organisation’s national patrol. The neighbourhood watch worked together with various safety organisations, security companies, the police, the local chamber of commerce and taxi associations to effect increased visibility, communication, cooperation and mobilisation. AfriForum’s nationwide mass patrols take place three times a year.

About 50 people in 27 vehicles took part. The convoy followed a route that winds through all the residential areas of the town. Residential areas where the patrol was held, include inter alia Rooiheuwel, Volmoed, Oudtshoorn North and Wesbank. After the patrol the patrollers received a cup of coffee and a hotdog that was donated by Beans About Coffee and the Oudtshoorn Spar. Chris Macpherson, the mayor of Oudtshoorn, thanked the patrollers for the initiative and expressed his wish that this will lead to excellent cooperation to the advantage of the whole community.

Hendrik Kotze, safety chairman of AfriForum’s Oudtshoorn branch, thanked the neighbourhood watch members for their selfless service. “With projects like these we see how communities, within the framework of the law, take ownership of their own safety and purposefully establish a network of cooperation to ensure their prosperous existence in such manner.”
