AfriForum’s Edenvale branch mourns the passing of a beloved community leader
The AfriForum branch in Edenvale mourns the death of Linda McKenzie, the branch’s Vice-chairperson, who passed away on Saturday morning 26 October after a brave battle with her health. She underwent back surgery at Netcare Linksfield Hospital in September, after which her condition suddenly deteriorated.
Since the inception of the Edenvale branch in March 2018, Linda has served as a strong pillar of this community and has been unwavering in her commitment to the upliftment and protection of Edenvale. She left deep traces in the community and her work and passion for improvement and safety will be remembered by all for a long time.
On Sunday 27 October, more than 50 vehicles gathered at Meadowdale Mall for a commemorative drive in honour of Linda’s legacy. The convoy was a moving tribute to a special woman who never backed down in the fight against crime and was always willing to lend a helping hand where it was needed. Her perseverance and her love for the people of Edenvale inspired everyone and kept the community hopeful.
“Linda McKenzie will always be remembered as a light in Edenvale – someone who was always willing to give her time and energy for the upliftment and protection of others. She was truly an example of what it means to be at your community’s service,” says Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
“AfriForum and the community will always cherish Linda’s selfless service and warm heart. We wish her family and loved ones comfort and strength in this difficult time,” concludes Ferreira.
