AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches participate in police operation

AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Kempton Park, Alberton, Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston and Springs this past weekend participated in the police’s Operation Masakhane in the Kempton Park area in cooperation with the SAPS, CPF’s and various security companies.

Approximately 55 AfriForum members participated in the operation that included, amongst others, two roadblocks and a drug raid – led by the crime prevention unit of the SAPS. During the operation two drug-related arrests were made. Various drugs were confiscated, as well as an illegal firearm and a bank sachet containing gold.

During the roadblocks 203 people and 180 vehicles were searched, while approximately 2 100 pamphlets on drug awareness and 700 pamphlets on domestic violence were distributed along with water bottles and whistles.

“The patrol was a huge success and AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch is encouraging the community to become involved at their local safety networks,” says Dirk Venter, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch.

“AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch would like to thank the SAPS, as well as the other neighbourhood watches on the East Rand that participated in these raids for the excellent cooperation and good coordination during these actions,” says Jan Vermaak, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch.
