AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches participate in national patrol
AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Kempton Park, Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston, Benoni and Springs participated in AfriForum’s national patrol on 13 March 2020. The SAPS, local CPFs and other neighbourhood watches were also involved in the patrol.
A total of 141 AfriForum branches, of which 60 branches are in the northern region, participated in the national patrol.
AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in the East Rand want to make a difference in their respective communities by reassuring and safeguarding residents through the initiation of high visibility operations. A total of 166 AfriForum members and 66 other participants were involved in the East Rand part of the national patrol. A distance of approximately 7 830 km was completed in 109 vehicles. About ten incidents were handled by AfriForum, which included damage to street lights, robbery, armed robbery, house-breaking and attempted cable theft.
“Visibility plays a decisive roll in curbing crime. AfriForum neighbourhood watches will therefore put emphasis on increased visibility operations in their respective areas. AfriForum’s safety team wants to thank the SAPS, CPFs and security companies who supported AfriForum’s East Rand branches during this mass patrol. Good cooperation is the key to success,” says Butch Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.
