AfriForum’s Durban branch establishes Community Safety Unit
AfriForum’s Durban branch established a Community Safety Unit on 25 January, which will consist of a large group of neighbourhood watches. These neighbourhood watches will form part of AfriForum’s safety initiatives that are rapidly growing in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). So far, one neighbourhood watch has been established in the Durban area and there are plans to expand this number soon. The neighbourhood watches will protect the community in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“We plan to empower our members with the necessary equipment for safety operations. In addition, training is of paramount importance, especially to act quickly, effectively and correctly during incidents. Furthermore, it is important for us to form a structure with good communication,” says Stuart Affleck, Leader of the AfriForum branch for Durban’s Community Safety Unit.
AfriForum also serves on the SAPS provincial rural community safety forum and is part of the provincial rural safety plan for KZN.
“AfriForum’s Durban branch would like to work with all role players to promote community safety and thereby keep residents safe,” says Donald Brown, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Durban branch.
