AfriForum’s branches in the greater Pretoria contribute to greener future
The AfriForum branches in the greater Pretoria planted more than 200 trees during September this year as part of the civil rights organisation’s national arbour month campaign.
“Trees are our heritage. It is an important part of the ecosystem and is a natural resource without which no one would be able to survive,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Gauteng North.
The main aim for Pretoria this year was to plant river bushwillows (Combretum erythrophyllum), which were mostly obtained from Willow Feather Farm. AfriForum encourages communities to plant indigenous trees that will thrive in their areas.
“To me, the planting of indigenous trees – except for the important role they play in the wellness of our country’s ecosystem – also symbolises the important role that our country’s people have to play in the wellness of the country. To make a success of the country, all citizens must do their part and keep on building for all of us to flourish,” says De Klerk.
AfriForum encourages the community to become part of the project and participate in a greener, better future. SMS “Groen” to 45341 (R1) to get involved.
