NORTHERN REGION

LIMPOPO

 Naboomspruit

  • AfriForum’s Naboomspruit branch launched a project to make the town lovely again. The branch planted large candelabra trees at all four the entrances to the town and also repainted the pots in which the trees were planted. Furthermore the branch filled up potholes in the town, which forms part of their pothole project. The branch also purchased parts for a water pump that broke as a result of poor maintenance by the municipality.

 

 GAUTENG

Midvaal

  • AfriForum’s Midvaal branch contributed to road safety by means of erecting stop signs in cooperation with Midvaal Ward 13, while they also repainted road lanes in Howepan and Party Road in Boltonwold.

Roodepoort

  • The AfriForum branch in Roodepoort enriched lives together with Helping Hand by distributing bags and stationery at schools on the West Rand.
  • AfriForum’s Roodepoort neighbourhood watch held a mass patrol in cooperation with the following role-players to accomplish crime prevention: Fairlands SAPS, Honeydew CPF, Sophiatown CPF, Florida CPF, National Security and SCP Security.

Westonaria

  • AfriForum’s Westonaria branch repaired water pipes. Due to a shortage of building material and municipal workers that were under the influence of alcohol, the municipality was unable to repair these pipes.

Kempton Park

  • The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Kempton Park, Brakpan and Springs held a visibility patrol in cooperation with the community policing forum (CPF) of Bakerton.
  • AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch offered assistance during the dispute settlement of a resident’s excessively high water account.
  • AfriForum’s Kempton Park neighbourhood watch offered assistance during the following incidents:
    • Various car accidents.
    • A street robbery.
    • Three housebreakings.
    • A vehicle that fell into a hole.
    • Two business robberies.
    • A man assaulting a woman.
    • Two medical emergencies.

Alberton

  • AfriForum’s Alberton neighbourhood watch offered assistance during the search for a missing child.

Benoni

  • AfriForum’s Benoni neighbourhood watch received 11 bulletproof vests, a night vision device, patrol lights, emergency bags and pepper spray in order to properly equip patrollers.

Brakpan

  • AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch established violent crime clean-up teams.
  • AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch received training in scene management in cooperation with the EMPD.
  • AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch completed a trauma blood control course.
  • AfriForum’s Brakpan neighbourhood watch established a bicycle patrol and equipped patrollers with helmets.

Edenvale

  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch held visibility actions at ATM’s and large shopping centres during December.
  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch offered assistance to businesses that suffered damages during inclement weather by placing sandbags on roofs and cleaning up streets.
  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch assisted the SAPS during the temporary nursing of a child that ran away from home.
  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch offered assistance during the rescue attempt of a homeless mother and her baby that were trapped at Horwoods Farm during inclement weather conditions.
  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch held various operations in cooperation with safety institutions during which arrests were made and drugs confiscated.
  • AfriForum’s Edenvale neighbourhood watch offered assistance during the tracking down of a resident’s stolen handbag after her vehicle was burgled.

Moot

  • AfriForum’s Moot branch acted quickly to remove a tree that was blown over onto the road during a storm. The fire brigade also reacted to the situation and assisted in solving the problem.

West Moot

  • AfriForum’s West Moot branch was of assistance at the train accident that took place in Pretoria.
  • AfriForum’s West Moot branch launched a clean-up action.

Meyerspark

  • AfriForum’s Meyerspark neighbourhood watch assisted in tracing a stolen vehicle in cooperation with the SAPS.
  • A member of AfriForum’s Meyerspark neighbourhood watch noticed two suspects as they were jumping over a wall in Willow Park Manor. He followed the suspects and chased them from the area. Approximately half an hour later a break-in in Meyerspark was reported over the radio. Patrol vehicles were summoned and one of the suspects was caught with stolen goods in his possession. The SAPS arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and the suspect was arrested. One of the stolen items was a personal computer that contained confidential information.

 

MPUMALANGA

Bethal

  • AfriForum’s Bethal branch brought relief by supplying water to residents during the water crisis in the town. They worked in cooperation with the Bethal CPF.

 Middelburg

  • The Middelburg branch started with the first phase of a project that entails building a greenhouse at the Hoërskool Middelburg. This involves building a new floor.
  • The Middelburg branch continued with the Helipad project and the second layer of paint was added.
  • The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in the town received new night-vision equipment.

White River

  • The White River branch manned a successful stand during the Festival of the Covenant and supplied residents with free cooldrinks during the event.

 Nelspruit

  • AfriForum’s Cairn-Burnside farm watch received new equipment for members of the reaction unit.
  • AfriForum’s Nelspruit branch donated bulletproof vests to the Machadodorp branch as part of the anchor town strategy.

 Machadodorp

  • AfriForum’s Machadodorp branch received equipment that will be used to protect members. These bulletproof vests were sponsored by the Nelspruit branch.

 

CENTRAL REGION


NORTH WEST

 Christiana

  • The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Christiana assisted the SAPS with road closures during protests.

Bloemhof

  • The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Bloemhof patrolled the town during protests.

Delareyville

  • The AfriForum branch in Delareyville had a report compiled by an expert regarding the situation with the water system in the town. The report was sent to MM, Sedibeng and Cogta.

 Schweizer-Reneke

  • The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Schweizer-Reneke held extra patrols during protests at the local primary school.

 Lichtenburg

  • The AfriForum branch in Lichtenburg repainted a four-way stop in 8th Avenue by completing the first phase of their paint project.

Buffelspoort

  • AfriForum established a branch in Buffelspoort. This branch includes three areas, namely Rex, Kroondal and Buffelspoort.

 Zeerust

  • AfriForum’s Zeerust branch donated a fence to the Uitkoms flats in Zeerust in cooperation with local businesses.

 Potchefstroom

  • AfriForum’s Potchefstroom branch’s do-it-yourself team filled up nearly 1 500 potholes in the town. The branch also replaced various stop signs and as such contributed to road safety in the town.

 Ventersdorp

  • The youth portfolio of the Ventersdorp branch touched up the nameboards at the various entrances to the town by repainting and cleaning it. These nameboards started looking really ramshackle.

Stilfontein

  • AfriForum’s Stilfontein branch launched a clean-up action in cooperation with the SAPS and fire brigade to subsequently ensure that the area surrounding the police station is clean, neat and safe.

 Wolmaransstad

  • AfriForum’s Wolmaransstad branch successfully reorganised and a new branch management was appointed with the main purpose of creating hope for residents in the town.

Hartbeesfontein

  • AfriForum’s Hartbeesfontein neighbourhood watch received new equipment – including flashlights, vehicle magnets, reflector jackets and bulletproof vests – to enable the neighbourhood watch to make a bigger contribution in the town.

 

 FREE STATE

 Sasolburg

  • AfriForum’s Sasolburg branch continued with the cleaning up of parks and green zones in Sasolburg and Vaalpark to subsequently contribute to a clean and safe town.

 Senekal

  • AfriForum’s Senekal branch repainted the road lanes of almost 25 stop streets in the town after the majority thereof became invisible.

 

 KWAZULU-NATAL

 

  • AfriForum branches in KwaZulu-Natal attended a provincial cohesion meeting of the premier.
  • AfriForum branches in KwaZulu-Natal mobilised 28 communities to participate in a provincial patrol during the December holidays.

Newcastle

  • AfriForum’s Newcastle branch purchased radios and other equipment for the neighbourhood watch.
  • AfriForum’s Newcastle branch held various patrols to safeguard their community.

 Vryheid

  • AfriForum’s Vryheid branch held various patrols to combat cattle theft and other crimes.
  • AfriForum’s Vryheid branch pointed out the Abaqulusi Local Municipality’s defective tender procedures.
  • AfriForum’s Vryheid branch is involved with and following the correct procedures with regard to the expansion of the town’s cemetery.

Margate

  • AfriForum’s Margate branch safeguarded their community by means of scheduling daily patrols during the festive season.
  • AfriForum’s Margate branch received various youth awards thanks to the actions of its active youth wing.

Hluhluwe

  • The Hluhluwe branch’s safety team traced seven stolen vehicles during the festive season.
  • AfriForum’s Hluhluwe branch requested the provincial offices of the SAPS to tackle the problem regarding a shortage of police vehicles.
  • AfriForum’s Hluhluwe branch achieved success against rhino poachers in cooperation with the Hluhluwe SAPS.

 Pongola

  • AfriForum’s Pongola branch achieved various successes with regard to stolen vehicles and rhino poachers.

Paulpietersburg

  • AfriForum’s Paulpietersburg branch held various patrols to safeguard their community.
  • AfriForum’s Paulpietersburg branch placed the municipality on terms due to the town’s smouldering landfill site.

 

 SOUTHERN REGION

NORTHERN CAPE

Vaalharts

  • AfriForum’s Vaalharts branch held a meeting with the Phokwane Local Municipality regarding complaints from the community and possible solutions surrounding these complaints.

 

EASTERN CAPE

Aliwal North

  • AfriForum’s Aliwal North branch donated fodder to farmers in Soutpan, where droughts are still continuing.

 

WESTERN CAPE

 Kraaifontein

  • AfriForum’s Kraaifontein branch launched a clean-up action during which parts of the neighbourhood were cleaned up, among which Okavango Road and Brighton Street, as well as the channel next to Sarel van Deventer Road.

Malmesbury

  • AfriForum recently established its first neighbourhood watch in the Rondeberg area to help tackle crime. This new neighbourhood watch will be known as the Rondeberg neighbourhood watch and forms part of AfriForum’s Malmesbury branch structure.
  • AfriForum’s Rondeberg neighbourhood watch received training regarding legal aspects that are applicable to patrols.

Vredendal

  • AfriForum’s neighbourhood and farm watches in the Matzikama region received training regarding legal aspects that are applicable to patrols.

Overstrand

  • AfriForum’s Alfa and Greater Gansbaai neighbourhood watches, as well as the Hemel-en-Aarde farm watch, which all form part of the civil rights organisation’s Overstrand branch, offered assistance to various role-players during the veldt fires in Hermanus and Franskraal. The neighbourhood watch members assisted with, among others, the evacuation of properties in danger zones and extinguishing fires. AfriForum’s community safety structures fought the fires uninterrupted in cooperation with the fire brigades of the Overstrand and the surrounding towns to ensure that damage is limited as far as possible.

 

PORTFOLIOS

Safety Affairs

  • Safety Affairs compiled two energy-related petitions and submitted it to parliament. They subsequently received a lot of media attention.
