AfriForum submits comments opposing Expropriation Bill to Free State Provincial Legislature
The civil rights organisation AfriForum this week submitted more written comments strongly opposing the Expropriation Bill [B 23 – 2020], this time to the Free State Provincial Legislature.
The Bill is currently before the National Council of Provinces, which is why individual provinces have had opportunities for the public to submit comments.
In 2023 AfriForum submitted written comments against the Expropriation Bill to the Select Committee on Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure, as well as the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development and Property Management. AfriForum’s Gauteng representatives also delivered oral presentations opposing the Bill at opportunities in June. Furthermore, AfriForum submitted comments to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Infrastructure against this Bill.
According to Ernst van Zyl, Campaign Officer for Strategy and Content at AfriForum, private property rights are of crucial importance. Any Bill threatening this fundamental right must be opposed at every opportunity.
“The ANC must understand the message loud and clear: State-sanctioned theft of property will not be tolerated,” concludes Van Zyl.
AfriForum has made it easy for the public to speak out against this Bill by going to www.onteiening.co.za.
