AfriForum to submit practical steps against farm murders to Bheki Cele after February blood bath
AfriForum will soon send a request to the new Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, in a bid to submit practical steps in combatting farm attacks and murders.
“The country has already witnessed more than 90 farm attacks this year, with about 10 murders on farms. This is already more than for the same period last year. Farm attacks have increased over the past three years and at the current tempo it is probably going to increase exponentially,” says Ian Cameron, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety.
AfriForum also wants to request Cele to fast-track the employment process to establish the reservist system, which would see the more efficient curbing of farm murders.
Cameron also adds that AfriForum will announce in the coming weeks more practical ways in which farm murders can be prevented, as well as ways in which victim support can be improved.
Cameron concludes that the solution lies in the golden triangle of cooperation between community structures, the SAPS and private security.
