AfriForum raises its voice against racism

AfriForum submitted criminal charges at the police station in Springbok after individuals made racist utterances toward white people and encouraged violence against this race group. Inappropriate suggestions and accusations with foul language were also spread on social media.

“The community of Springbok agrees that there is no room for this sort of utterances in their society. It will unnecessarily divide the community and stir up racial hatred,” says Sarel Stone, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Springbok branch.

“Persons who make utterances of this sort – irrespective of their race or the targeted race group – must be measured by the same yardstick. Should such individuals not be reprimanded immediately, it will negatively influence our community’s attitude toward race groupings,” says Marnus Kamfer, Legal and Risk Manager at AfriForum’s Community Safety Division.

AfriForum will monitor the progress of the investigation into these charges and apply pressure on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to increase the likelihood for the successful prosecution of the accused.
