AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Greater Pretoria take part in national patrol
From 16:00 to 06:00 on 8 March 2019 AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Gauteng took part in the civil rights watchdog’s national patrol. The Apies River, Bronkhorstspruit, Hennops River Valley, Moot, Meyers Park, Pretoria-West and West Moot neighbourhood watches were, in conjunction with numerous other safety institutions, security firms and the police in the Tshwane Metropolitan area, involved in this patrol.
Altogether 15 AfriForum neighbourhood watches and 241 patrollers took part in the patrol. The patrol covered more than 3 215 km in 156 vehicles in a total of 276 manhours. No incidents were reported.
Nine other safety institutions – including CPFs, security firms, the SAPS and other private neighbourhood watches – took part in this patrol along with AfriForum.
“AfriForum launches these national patrols to improve visibility and cooperation, as well as to ensure the safety of our communities,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Gauteng North.
“AfriForum appeals to communities to become involved and start prioritising their safety themselves. We cannot rely on government alone to look after our safety.
