AfriForum neighbourhood watches on the East Rand receive training

The civil rights organisation AfriForum’s Edenvale and Kempton Park neighbourhood watches on 24 March received victim assistance training. This training was presented during a workshop by Olivia Guerini, a registered counsellor. 

“With the strong growth of AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches, it is of critical importance that our neighbourhood watch members receive continued professional training. The neighbourhood watch members assist various people at crime or accident scenes and need to know how to act in specific situations,” says Jan Vermaak, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Kempton Park branch.

According to Linda McKenzie, Chairperson of the Safety Portfolio of AfriForum’s Edenvale branch, this training is only the first phase of a series of training sessions that are being planned in cooperation with various role-players. “The neighbourhood watch would like to make a positive difference in our community, but we are only as strong as our membership. We are therefore making a plea to the community to become involved at their local AfriForum branch and neighbourhood watch, and to proactively contribute to the combating of crime.”
