AfriForum neighbourhood watch extinguishes fires in Hennops River valley
The neighbourhood watches of the civil rights organisation AfriForum’s Hennops River valley recently helped to extinguish fires that started in the area adjacent to the valley.
The neighbourhood watches had just received new fire-fighting equipment that allowed them to extinguish a fire in 45 minutes that would normally have taken up to three hours with the older equipment.
“The industrial blowers enables one to go right up to the flames. Water trucks would not have been able to that in the Hennops River valley,” says Izak Pieters, AfriForum’s Safety Chairperson in the Centurion branch.
“This proves once again that neighbourhood watches can assist the community with a number of problems,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Gauteng.
