AfriForum makes representations that Zuma should go to prison
The civil rights organisation AfriForum made representations to the National Commissioner of Correctional Services, Makghoti Thobakgale, to explain why former president Jacob Zuma must serve the remainder of his sentence. This follows after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld AfriForum’s High Court ruling that Jacob Zuma’s medical parole was illegally granted. In addition to this, a costs order was filed against Zuma. However, the Supreme Court of Appeal left it to Thobakgale to decide whether Zuma’s time on medical parole could be deducted from his sentence.
“By making these representations to Thobakgale, AfriForum makes it clear that the organisation will not tolerate preferential treatment of high-ranking politicians. Zuma’s medical parole was illegal from the outset and therefore Zuma must go back to prison. AfriForum will continue to fight for justice in this matter,” says Reiner Duvenage, Campaign Officer for Strategy and Content at AfriForum.
