AfriForum holds national patrol

AfriForum on 18 September held a national patrol to increase visibility across the country for a short period. The civil rights organisation is one of the few institutions that currently launch such projects.

Thousands of AfriForum members participated in this initiative in cooperation with other safety role-players to ensure the success thereof. These role-players include various private neighbourhood watches, security companies, community policing forums, tow-in services, police stations, local businesses, emergency services and traffic departments.

The objective of the national patrol was to mobilise communities against crime, as well as to improve high visibility and cooperation between safety role-players on both national and local level.

Approximately 2 171 AfriForum members and 1 849 other safety role-players participated in 2 099 vehicles and covered a total of 88 959 km. A total of 159 incidents were handled during the patrol.

“Crime in the country, and especially in the northern region, is increasing drastically. For this reason AfriForum launches projects such as the national patrol to subsequently ensure that different safety role-players are approached to increase visibility in the country for a short period,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the northern region.

“AfriForum launches these national patrols to improve visibility and cooperation and to ensure the safety of our communities,” says Joseph Renaud, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the central region.

“AfriForum is making a plea to communities to become involved and prioritise their safety themselves. We cannot rely on the state alone to look after our safety. Become involved with any safety institution in your area or join AfriForum today and become part of the solution,” concludes Renaud.
