AfriForum expresses sympathy with the death of Dr Danny Titus

AfriForum expresses its condolences to the children, family and colleagues of Dr Danny Titus, who passed away on Friday 18 September 2020.

Dr Titus played a significant role in the fields of language and community service. Among others, he will be remembered for his comments on current affairs, his input for the empowerment of the brown community and his endeavours to promote Afrikaans.

While serving as Commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), he led a comprehensive investigation into farm attacks requested by AfriForum. Following a series of nationwide hearings, the SAHRC released a comprehensive report in 2015 with recommendations, and also brought it to the attention of Parliament and all relevant government departments. When he released the report, Dr Titus expressed serious concern for the safety of farm residents, stating that the government and politicians should take much stronger action against farm attacks.

He was deeply concerned about corruption and the decay of the state, and often took a stand against transgressions in this regard on public platforms and in the media.

“Danny was someone who did not shy away from controversy when it came to matters of principle. He was someone with a big heart for his family, religion, language and culture. He will be missed, and we pray for the comfort of his loved ones,” says Alana Bailey, AfriForum’s Head of Cultural Affairs.
