AfriForum branches in Tswaing demand explanation regarding reckless expenditure
The AfriForum branches in Delareyville, Ottosdal and Sannieshof demanded an explanation from the Mayor and the Municipal Manager of the Tswaing Local Municipality regarding the reckless expenditure of nearly R500 000. This enormous amount was spent on a strategic planning session.
According to Kagiso Mangwejane, Caucus Leader of the DA in Tswaing, this session was held at a luxurious lodge in the Cradle of Humankind and this amount was spent on a motivational speaker, facilitator and accommodation. The DA has also already ordered an internal investigation into this matter.
“It is unacceptable to AfriForum members and the entire community that money is being wasted in this manner while the towns are degrading. The AfriForum branches in the respective towns are constantly in conversation with the Municipality regarding problems involving water, electricity, sewage disposal works and landfill sites. No maintenance work is being performed, while the existing infrastructure is busy degrading. The Municipality’s excuse is always that no money is available, yet they can justify the costs related to such an event,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Stellaland.
The letter was also sent to the MEC for Finance in North West for further investigation. The Municipality has until 23 February to react to AfriForum’s letter.
