AFRIFORUM BRANCH STRUCTURES IN PARYS WORKED HARD DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH
AfriForum’s Parys branch tackled various projects in March. Throughout the month the branch used a total of 15 bags of tar to fill up potholes in Grens Street. This street contained a lot of hazards for motorists due to the poor condition thereof. The branch also cooperated with the Parys Do-it-yourself group to clean up the local spruit. The difference in how the spruit looks now is quite remarkable. In addition, the branch worked hard to tidy up the local museum to subsequently preserve our heritage.
The local neighbourhood watch was also quite busy seeing as they regularly held patrols to subsequently improve the safety of residents by combating crime and acting as the eyes and ears of the police. Two neighbourhood watch members attended a training course in Bloemfontein and are now sharing this knowledge with the rest of the neighbourhood watch.
Pieter Struwig, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Parys branch, says the cooperation between organisations in the town is good. “Just think how big a difference we will make if all the residents of Parys become members of AfriForum.”
According to Fanie Kruger, Leader of AfriForum’s Parys neighbourhood watch, there was a large increase in housebreakings, as well as theft of garden tools and dustbins. The neighbourhood watch patrols also noticed that many gates and garage doors are still left open after dusk. “Residents need to be careful and rather keep gates and doors locked. Also report the incidents and submit a charge at the police, even if it doesn’t always feel necessary.”
“It is important that every resident of Parys become involved with these initiatives. Only by working together will a real difference be made,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Mooi River.
The community is encouraged to become involved with this AfriForum branch to subsequently make a real difference: Contact Jenny at 082 090 2563.
