AfriForum’s Walker Drive neighbourhood watch helps prevent burglary; arrests suspect
On 15 November 2023, AfriForum’s Walker Drive neighbourhood watch members caught a suspicious person who was in a resident’s yard – the neighbourhood watch responded to an emergency call on a safety group.
One of the patrollers noticed the suspicious person when the suspect jumped over the wall of the residence. The patroller was able to arrest the suspect. Atlas Security and Citywide Security were on the scene within minutes to support the patrol member.
“Thanks to the patrol member’s quick actions and the necessary communication, the suspect was successfully arrested. Due to the good cooperation that the neighbourhood watch has with the various role-players, it was possible to offer quick support to the members. It helps us to make a real difference in our community,” says Wikus van der Walt, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Eastern Cape.
AfriForum requests all communities to get involved in their local neighbourhood watch structures to look after their own safety in cooperation with other security services, says Van der Walt.
