Fifteen tons of tar for repairing a road at Laerskool Anton van Wouw

Two days and 15 tons of tar later, and the road in front of a Pretoria primary school has finally been repaired. Yesterday and today (23 and 24 November 2023), AfriForum tackled this huge task after receiving several requests from the community for the repair of Dey Street in front of Laerskool Anton van Wouw in Nieuw Muckleneuk.

According to Chris Henning, principal of Anton van Wouw, the school has been struggling for some time to have this dilapidated road repaired. They followed all the right channels but were repeatedly unsuccessful in their efforts. However, this week’s project, during which AfriForum intervened to repair this road, was a success. Henning expressed his gratitude to AfriForum for restoring the road, which is now safe for motorists – and therefore also the learners.

A total of 15 tons of tar was used on a total surface of 154 m2 to repair this road as well as parts of the sidewalks in front of the school. The total cost of the project amounts to approximately R85 000.

According to Sampie Steinberg, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria North, this civil rights organisation will continue to assist communities and launch projects of this nature. “It is a privilege for us to be able to help Laerskool Anton van Wouw in this regard and thereby emphasising the value of communities tackling problems by themself,” he explains.

We encourage the community to get involved with AfriForum to be able to take on even more projects in their community.
