Machadodorp branch repairs 35 potholes in Tobias Street
On 28 July, AfriForum’s Machadodorp branch repaired 35 potholes in just one of this town’s streets, Tobias Street. It took four branch members a whole day and more than 20 bags of tar and 40 litres of bitumen emulsion to ensure the road was driveable.
The extremely high number of potholes on Tobias Street shows the state of the town’s roads. Potholes like these not only cause damage to vehicles and their tyres but also pose a safety risk for motorists because they must constantly swerve to avoid them.
The willingness and initiative of the Machadodorp branch prove once again how people can come together to support a community and improve road safety at the same time. This project is an example of community involvement and its positive impact on a town.
“Repairing these potholes already made a big difference. It reduced the risk of accidents, helps to improve the traffic flow, and motorists now have peace of mind to use the road,” says Arlo van Heerden, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Lowveld.
