Benoni branch repairs huge amount of potholes in town

AfriForum’s Benoni branch tackled potholes during May. Even though the branch repairs potholes throughout the year, the branch decided to expand its sustainable pothole project even further in May.

This follows after months of rain wreaked havoc on Benoni’s roads. Branch members spent two days each week filling potholes. During the project, approximately 240 potholes were filled, and 340 bags of tar (8,5 tonnes) were used. The streets where the branch repaired potholes include, among others, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Goodman, Potgieter, Retief, Malcom and Elston Street.

“This project aims to ensure that Benoni’s roads and infrastructure do not deteriorate further due to poor maintenance, and I believe that this action will make a big difference to the safety of motorists,” says Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.

“This project gave me hope. It is wonderful to see how a community takes the initiative to fill potholes. We believe that this will encourage all the residents to join the Benoni branch and help with similar projects,” concludes Ferreira.

The Benoni branch invites the public to get involved in their community and join the branch by contacting Archie Mouyis at 0849761234 or by visiting afriforum.benoni@gmail.com.
