Vryheid branch installs advanced camera system
The AfriForum branch in Vryheid has set up five advanced Sniper cameras at strategic locations in this KwaZulu-Natal town. It forms part of the Vryheid branch’s strategy to use technology to help fight crime in the community.
“We decided to make use of the Sniper camera system, as it has already been installed in larger parts of KwaZulu-Natal. The system has proven that it helps in fighting crime and has already led to great successes,” says André van der Walt, Chairperson of AfriForum’s branch in Vryheid.
“Several branches across KwaZulu-Natal mainly use two advanced camera systems to take control of the safety in their area and contribute to helping fight crime in the province,” says Eugene van Aswegen, District Coordinator in KwaZulu-Natal.
The system uses cameras that can read number plates in a searchable database and will be monitored by a local control room. This empowers communities to monitor crime in unique ways.
“We hope to further expand the system in our communities next year,” says Hein Schönborn, AfriForum’s Operational Team Leader of the Vryheid neighbourhood watch.
AfriForum would like to thank Pro5 Security and Mfezi Security for their donations and contribution to launch this project.
The community is encouraged to get involved with this AfriForum branch in order to make a real difference and expand this system further. Contact Van der Walt on 083 387 4268.
