AfriForum’s Hessequa branch achieves success together with SAPS

The AfriForum branch in Hessequa’s neighbourhood and farm watches arrested a suspected burglar in cooperation with the SAPS on 17 September 2020 in Riversdale.

The SAPS approached Johan Crous, Chairperson of the Hessequa neighbourhood watch, at around 07:30 on Thursday morning for support after a search for the suspect the previous day had been unsuccessful. Crous called in the Albertinia and Riversdale neighbourhood watches to participate in the search. One of AfriForum’s drones was also deployed.

Four-by-four vehicles and the SAPS’s dog unit were also deployed during the search in the Brandrivier area. The suspect was often spotted, but because of the rough, extensive terrain he managed to escape every time. The SAPS withdrew at dusk, although members of AfriForum’s reaction teams remained behind.

The suspect was spotted again later the evening and was arrested by AfriForum’s reaction teams. He was then handed over to the SAPS.

It was encouraging to experience how success can be achieved on ground level if we work together with the SAPS and harness our joint abilities to make a difference,” says Crous.
