AfriForum meets with administrators over poor service delivery in Pretoria

AfriForum met with the administrators of the Tshwane Metro on 11 August 2020 about letters the organisation sent to the metro on 28 July and 5 August respectively, regarding the recurring electricity and sewerage problems plaguing several parts of Pretoria.

According to the metro, the recent strike action by workers placed immeasurable pressure on service delivery, causing a huge backlog. The backlog should be resolved by the end of this week.

“Our meeting with the metro was positive and they confirmed that most of the backlogs will be sorted out by the end of this week. AfriForum will continue to monitor the situation and give feedback to the administrators,” says Jp Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria.

“We look forward to working with the metro in the future to improve Pretoria for all its residents. We will continue exerting pressure to ensure that suitable solutions are found for problems,” says Sampie Steinberg, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Greater Pretoria.

“Service delivery is now a priority for AfriForum and the administrators. We can work together to ensure better service delivery, even though we disagree on other matters, such as the budget,” says Morné Mostert, Manager for Local Government Affairs at AfriForum.
