Clean-up operation on Margate’s beach creates nature awareness among the youth

The youth wing of AfriForum’s Margate branch once again rolled up their sleeves and cleaned Margate’s main beach on 14 September 2019 in cooperation with Youth in Action and the Margate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association.

The clean-up operation was aimed at creating awareness for nature among young people, as well as to offer a cleaner, more enjoyable environment to beach-goers. Altogether 28 youth members picked up at least ten bags of rubbish.

The branch’s youth wing also used the opportunity to express their displeasure with violence against women and children by holding a peaceful demonstration on the beach.

After the operation, Senzi’s Grill & Butchery Shop treated the youth to a light breakfast.

“I am very proud of our youth’s dedication and willingness to make Margate a cleaner place. The Margate community’s support has been exceptional, and we trust that this attitude will gain momentum,” says Barry Smit, Chairperson of the youth portfolio of AfriForum’s Margate branch.

The Margate branch’s youth wing is planning similar clean-up operations at other beaches on the South Coast.
