Visibility action leads to successful patrol

Volunteers of AfriForum’s Piet Retief neighbourhood watch executed another visibility action on the evening of 14 September 2018. The local South African Police Service (SAPS) seconded eight of their members to support the patrol, while traffic officers made three vehicles available to the neighbourhood watch.

During this patrol, a convoy was also executed which visited each sector in Piet Retief. Here the SAPS made several arrests and traffic officials issued fines.

“It is important for us to execute this initiative regularly so that continued visibility in the community can be ensured and also to limit criminal activities in our town,” says Gerhard Böhmer, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Piet Retief neighbourhood watch. “The community’s input and assistance is highly appreciated and can contribute to the safety of everyone in Piet Retief.”

Neighbourhood watch members responded to gunshots in the vicinity of Von Brandis Street and Magnolia Avenue. The SAPS were also on the scene promptly after a diver in this neighbourhood was shot dead.
