AfriForum’s Roodepoort neighbourhood watch arranges mass patrol

The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Roodepoort in September launched a mass patrol with regard to crime prevention. The patrol kicked off at the Fairlands Police Station.

In total, 48 units participated in the patrol, among which private security companies like Apcan, BCI, Beagle Watch, Tau and National, as well as the SAPS and CPF units of Fairlands, Honeydew and Sophiatown.

The patrol started at 19:00 on 22 September in Fairlands and continued until 2:30 the next morning, after which the separate units returned to their various areas.

“By Sunday night at 19:00, the neighbourhood watch received a request from Netcare911 emergency services to render assistance at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Rose Street after a multiple-vehicle collision. Six of our units were present at the scene and by 21:30 assisted the Johannesburg metro police to reopen the roads again,” says Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Vaal Triangle and the West Rand.
