AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Tshwane Metro combat crime with mass patrol
AfriForum’s Bronkhorstspruit, Hennops River Valley, Meyerspark, Moreleta, Pretoria West, Rayton-and-Cullinan and West Moot neighbourhood watches on 6 April participated in the civil rights watchdog’s national mass patrol in cooperation with the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), the SAPS in the Tshwane Metro and numerous other safety institutions. The patrol kicked off at 16:00 and continued until 6:00 the next morning.
In total 434 patrollers covered approximately 8 620 km in 257 vehicles. Seven incidents were handled successfully.
“The success of the national patrol lies in communities standing together and working together to combat crime. Crime affects everyone and therefore AfriForum is making a plea to communities to increasingly become involved at safety structures,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Gauteng North.
AfriForum would like to thank each neighbourhood watch member for his/her participation in the national patrol, as well as the TMPD, the SAPS and every private institution that participated.
