AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches hold mass patrol
AfriForum’s Alberton, Benoni, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston and Kempton Park neighbourhood watches on 6 April 2018 participated in the civil rights organisation’s mass patrol in cooperation with various security companies and safety institutions.
This mass patrol was held to increase the visibility of neighbourhood watches, as well as to combat crime. The action started at around 18:00 and continued until 6:00 the next morning. In total 131 patrollers (excluding the personnel of security companies and other safety institutions) participated. Altogether 6 120 km was covered in approximately 739 man-hours. No serious incidents were reported.
“AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches will continuously tackle projects and regularly hold patrols in an attempt to combat crime and promote safety in cooperation with the SAPS and other safety institutions,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Safety Coordinator for Gauteng.
