AfriForum’s anti-bullying campaign visits the Laerskool Helderkruin and does leadership development in cooperation with HeyLead
The civil rights watchdog AfriForum on 8 and 9 February paid a visit to the Laerskool Helderkruin in Roodepoort as part of the civil rights organisation’s anti-bullying campaign and leadership development camp that is presented in cooperation with HeyLead.
This anti-bullying campaign serves as realisation of bullying in schools and includes information sessions with learners, teachers and parents.
“It is important to AfriForum to cooperate with learners, teachers and parents to bring about a difference and crack down on bullying in schools. We are also glad to see that the Laerskool Helderkruin has a bullying council to help put a stop to the problem as well as to develop leadership amongst learners,” says Leandie Lombaard, AfriForum’s Coordinator for Leadership Development.
As part of this, AfriForum is cooperating with Manie Botha of HeyLead to present a leadership development camp at the school. All Grade 7 learners are invited to the camp to sharpen up on their leadership skills.
“All Grade 7 learners at the Laerskool Helderkruin are elected as leaders after which they are divided into different task councils to allow their leadership skills to be developed at a young age. The school’s various task councils include the sport council, community council, social council, culture council, toddler council, buildings and grounds council, media council, bullying council, computer council, academic council, service point council and road patrol council,” explains Jacques Breet, Head of Educational Leadership at the Laerskool Helderkruin.
“I believe that it is of the utmost importance to invest in today’s youth by means of education, direction and support. As such, we are not only helping with the upliftment of today’s leaders, but also of the leaders of tomorrow. It stays a privilege to take hands with parents, teachers and the community with regards to the upliftment and development of our young leaders,” says Manie Botha of HeyLead.
