AfriForum’s Mpumalanga neighbourhood watches take part in national patrols

AfriForum’s neighbourhood and farm watches in White River, Piet Retief, Machadodorp, Lydenburg, the Cairn Burnside farm watch (Nelspruit), Witbank, the Argent farm watch (Delmas), Standerton and Secunda this past weekend took part in various patrols in conjunction with other safety structures.

These patrols, which form part of AfriForum’s national patrols that are currently being held, has the aim of increasing visibility in the community and was launched on 2 December 2017 at 18:00. Incidents were reported and assistance was given where needed.

Private security firms as well as medical service providers were approached. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was also present and assisted where needed.

Altogether 7 200 km were travelled by 107 vehicles during these patrols, while 183 patrollers took part and completed a total of 1 022 man-hours.

“Cooperation and planning made this action an enormous success and the community can be proud of what they have accomplished. It is heartening to see that the different communities took ownership of a problem and addressed the problem in cooperation with the SAPS,” says Hennie Bekker, AfriForum’s District Coordinator in Mpumalanga.
