AfriForum warns Zululand Municipality over leaking trucks
AfriForum warned the Zululand District Municipality to act against a contractor who transports water to residents in a rural area outside Paulpietersburg with leaking trucks.
“The water tanks of the trucks have holes and are wasting water wherever it travels. The contractor is still being paid by the Municipality, however, despite the fact that the amount of water agreed on never reaches the rural area. Tax-payers’ money is wasted while residents are left holding the baby,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator in KwaZulu-Natal.
Van Aswegen also says that it is unacceptable to waste water in this way, referring to the water shortage in the country as well as the dry season that Paulpietersburg has experienced over the last two years.
If the Municipality does not act against the contractor, AfriForum will take further steps.
