AfriForum’s Vanderbijlpark branch and Emfuleni Chamber of Commerce to safeguard Phoenix Park
AfriForum’s Vanderbijlpark branch in cooperation with the Emfuleni Chamber of Commerce safeguarded Phoenix Park during July 2017. This project is being driven since 2015 after the park has increasingly became a popular site for illegal activities, while severe pollution and littering also reign supreme.
AfriForum brought these problems under the Local Municipality’s attention and as such the project was launched in cooperation with the chamber of commerce. Various poles were erected, amongst others, to control access to the park, while information boards were also erected to inform community members of the park’s rules and regulations.
“Members of the public continuously complained about noise pollution, illegal parties and littering in the park. It is therefore important for us to take hands with the Municipality and address these problems proactively,” says Adriaan le Roux, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Vanderbijlpark branch.
“Phoenix Park is there to be used by the community and this project is extremely close to our hearts because safe green areas are important to us,” concludes Le Roux.
