Blue and green drop project: The Free State’s water is clean

AfriForum had the water in Bloemfontein, Dealesville, Boshof and Bultfontein tested this past week as part of the civil rights organisation’s national blue and green drop project and concluded that the town’s drinking water and sewage are up to standard. 

“We established that the drinking water and sewage in these towns are clean and contain no heavy metals, while bacteria levels adhere to applicable standards. However, AfriForum will test the water quality continuously to protect the constitutional rights of residents of the Free State and to ensure that they are provided with clean drinking water,” says Pieter Myburg, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Bloemfontein.

AfriForum’s national blue and green drop project focuses on the quality of the drinking water and sewage plants of towns. The project does not necessarily focus on the condition of the sewage plant itself, but rather on the quality of water released after the process as end result in the form of drinking water (blue drop) and treated sewage (green drop).

AfriForum is appealing to the residents of the Free State to give AfriForum the mandate to continuously monitor their town’s water quality. SMS “Free State” to 45266 to support this action. Each SMS costs R1.
