The online streaming entertainment service Netflix recently launched a scholarship for 2022 post-graduates who are pursuing qualifications in the film or TV genre. However, one of the main qualifying criteria is that the applicant must be black, as defined by the B-BBEE Code of Conduct. Therefore, aspiring white students who want to apply for this scholarship will be rejected outright based solely on the colour of their skin and regardless of their financial background. To demonstrate how cruelly discriminatory this scholarship is, its criteria favour the black child of a politician or billionaire over the white child of an unemployed household.
This type of blatant, shameless discrimination has no place in society and AfriForum therefore wants you to make your voice heard.

Dear Mr Hastings
I would like to voice my disgruntlement with Netflix’s discriminatory postgraduate scholarship programme, of which one of the main criteria for qualifying is that the applicant must be black. This is tantamount to blatant racial discrimination and is an insult to the South African constitutional value of non-racialism.
